Wah Wah

“Wah wah”. Is that how you spell the noise a baby makes when crying?…because that is my story, and it’s a doubleheader!

On December 23rd, of this now past year, our daughter Katie blessed us with our first grandchild.  A healthy granddaughter weighing in at 6 pounds, 8 ounces, and standing at a proud height of 21 inches, if she was standing (won’t be long).

At our daughters request, Deb left the sunny skies of Florida to return to Pennsylvania to assist our daughter with her new found treasure, who has the superpower of creating poopie diapers at a moments notice.  As Deb’s flight was already scheduled for December 24th, she missed the miraculous event (I mean the babies delivery, not the poopie diapers).

Deb meeting Nova Rose on Christmas Eve. She is the perfect gift.

Our daughter, a superhero, who finished her undergraduate degree in three years with highest honors; who started and runs two successful businesses; who just finished directing a major remodel on her home, is being overwhelmed by a child, not even ten pounds.  Our biggest loves are often our biggest challenges, welcome to parenthood!

The baby, she wants to eat when she wants to eat, sleep when she wants to sleep and be held constantly.  The child sounds a lot like me (Pappap). I wished the world catered to my wishes a little more often….I’ll cry about that later, no sense in boring you.

Did I mention another crying baby, yeah you guessed it, yours truly.  Don’t worry, I have been called a baby before, often even self described.

Well I have been missing my arm for 43 years now, and I can’t say I haven’t missed it, but as time went by I missed it less, as I perhaps creatively, sometimes stubbornly learned to accomplish what I needed too without it.

I have only been married 33 years at this point, but I did it with a partner that I have come to depend on. I am now missing her more than I anticipated.  Don’t get me wrong, my ears have enjoyed the rest they’re getting.  I didn’t realize how much she talked till she retired and all the talking got pointed my direction….but back to my story…as I am sure I will hear about adding these lines….Deb once asked me why I kept turning up the TV?  I told her, cause I could still hear her (I think that is one of my best lines, but she is not a fan)!

One thing Deb and I have done for each other (more than half my life has now been spent with her), is cover for each other.  Seeing what the other person needs and just doing it.  When our children were small, we knew when we had to get up and tend to a crying child in the middle of the night so the other person could get their much needed sleep, stopping at the store, paying the bills, etc., etc.

Well now when the dog wants to go for a walk one more time than I do, I am just out of luck, get the leash and take the dog.  My lunch doesn’t just appear like magic anymore…and dishes…don’t make me tell you about my love/hate relationship with dishes, I love to hate them!

Well as time goes by the dishes are getting done, the dog is getting walked….but I am missing my baby more than she could know (I guess this was a three baby story).
