2023 Annual Christmas Letter

2023 Annual Christmas Letter

Merry Christmas! I went to the Lighted Christmas Parade in Deming, NM on Saturday evening.  It was a very cute parade with lots of homemade lighted floats and Christmas music that just put me in the mood for the holidays.  I love this Season of Joy especially seeing the children’s eyes light up at the parade.  Tim had mentioned that we need to get our Christmas letter written and the parade put me in the mood to do just that so here goes!

Summer Updates and Fall Travels

Summer Updates and Fall Travels

I can’t believe that I haven’t written a blog post in months and I am sorry for not keeping everyone updated. Life got in the way this past summer with medical issues and work camping taking up all of my time. Thankfully, my arm is finally on the mend although it is going much more slowly than I would like.

Another Bump In The Road

Another Bump In The Road

Well as any story goes, there are hiccups, or challenges to the main character that must be overcome, which always is resolved before the final credits roll!, As our story begins, Deb was taking Trent last Monday to the groomers at Petco, for a much needed bath, nails, teeth. You know, basically the works as far as dog grooming goes! Then the unexpected happened.

Camping Neighbors are the Best

Camping Neighbors are the Best

We settled in at Wright’s Orchard Station Campground near Altoona, PA for the summer and are really enjoying the campground and the area. This is a small, quiet campground with friendly people. Since we wanted a site without too many trees overhead, we are in a long, somewhat narrow pie shaped site which works well for us. There is room for the truck in front of the rig and I am able to park my car in front of the office. We have enough space for our chairs, table, and the dog cot in the patio area, with a little grassy area behind us.

Challenging Travel North

Challenging Travel North

I am sorry for the long time between posts. Family and medical issues have consumed our time recently and blog posts were pushed to the back burner. I probably should have named this post medical problems, medical problems and more medical problems. I think things are finally settling down so I thought I would catch you up on our lives.

Catching Up

Catching Up

I can’t believe it has been over a month since I wrote a blog post. It feels like time just flew by since I wrote our annual Christmas letter post. We really haven’t been doing much but at the same time, we have been really busy. I guess we were busy not doing much of anything. Do you ever feel that way?

2022 Annual Christmas Letter

2022 Annual Christmas Letter

I can’t believe that 2022 is coming to an end and we are into the holiday season. As we look forward to celebrating Christmas in another week, it is a good time to update everyone on our family instead of just writing about Tim and my adventures.  It has been a busy and exciting year for the Senko family filled with many family gatherings and new family members.

Memories of My Parents

Memories of My Parents

My parents were my inspiration for many decisions that I made in my life and the main inspiration to live the RV lifestyle. Even though they didn’t have much money, my parents always made sure that we had family vacations, often staying in cabins or my Dad’s hunting camp, usually somewhere to enjoy being out in nature.

Enjoying Fall in Pennsylvania

Enjoying Fall in Pennsylvania

In the last blog, I had mentioned that Tim and I were tired and wanted to stay in Pennsylvania a bit longer before starting our trek south for the winter. We were fortunate to be able to extend our stay at Thousand Trails Hershey to almost 3 weeks. This campground is very popular in the fall and is fully booked, especially on the weekends. Lucky for us, there were some cancelations so we were initially able to extend our stay to 18 days.

Celebrating Three Years on the Road

Celebrating Three Years on the Road

Wow, I can’t believe that we have been living in the RV for three years already. We started traveling October 8, 2019, which I initially considered our full-time anniversary date, but we moved into the RV a month earlier, on September 8, 2019. I worked remotely for my last two weeks from the RV while we prepared to start traveling. So which date is the anniversary?

Passing Through PA With a Side Trip to Maryland

Passing Through PA With a Side Trip to Maryland

We spent the last month visiting our hometown, Pittsburgh, PA and enjoying our family and friends. We stayed at Mountain Top Campground again. It has become our home park while we are back in the Pittsburgh area. The location works out well for us; somewhat central to where our various family lives. One benefit to this campground are the gorgeous sunsets over the rolling hills.

Weather Challenges

Weather Challenges

When we left Florida last spring, we traveled north through Alabama up through the midwest to Indiana and Michigan. Since it was spring, we had a risk of storms coming through and in a couple places in Alabama, we had tornado watches. Luckily we never experienced a tornado warning or an actual tornado. It definitely seemed to us that taking a slightly western route first to head north has an increased risk of severe weather in the spring. So this year, we decided to take a more eastern route and head north up the east coast. That may not have been the best idea!

Enjoying Central Florida and Family time

Enjoying Central Florida and Family time

I know that I haven’t written a blog post in awhile, mostly because we didn’t have much new to share.. After I returned to Florida, Tim and I settled into a daily routine and didn’t tour around much. It gets that way when you stay in one place for a longer period of time. When we are moving every few days or weeks, we get excited about being in new places and spend more time touring and being in that vacation mindset. When we are at an extended stay, we tend to lose that “on vacation” feeling and spend more time at the campground.

Another Day in Paradise

Another Day in Paradise

Some people may think that living on the road, must be great. Seeing new places, experiencing new adventures is the life of dreams, right?

Well, I had a new adventure the other day that I will share with my four faithful followers. Deb and I have sort of defined roles regarding the upkeep and chores associated with our travels.

Wah Wah

Wah Wah

“Wah wah”. Is that how you spell the noise a baby makes when crying?…because that is my story, and it’s a doubleheader!  On December 23rd, of this now past year, our daughter Katie blessed us with our first grandchild. A healthy granddaughter weighing in at 6 pounds, 8 ounces, and standing at a proud height of 21 inches, if she was standing (won’t be long).

Our Annual Christmas Letter

Our Annual Christmas Letter

Merry Christmas to our family and friends! For the past 20 years or more, we have sent an annual Christmas letter with our Christmas cards to family and friends. The letter briefly covered the past year’s events for each member of the family. Since we are traveling, it is much harder to handle mail, especially Christmas cards. We decided to include this year’s letter in our blog instead of sending cards. It will hopefully still reach most of our family and friends. For the few that we know do not use social media, I will still send a card with this letter.

End of Summer 2021

End of Summer 2021

Tim and I were pretty busy our last month in Pittsburgh as summer ended and fall began. We continued to spend as much time as we could with family and friends. It was so wonderful to have that time together. We really enjoyed every visit and family gathering. I do feel bad that we didn’t get to see everyone so if we missed you this year, we will catch you the next time.

We just finished our second month of this summer’s visit to Pittsburgh, our hometown. It is great to be home and spend time with our family and friends. We are keeping very busy this summer and have been able to catch up with many more people than we did last year. I thought I would share a few of the activities we have been up too.

Back in the “Burgh”

This guy surprised me this morning when I headed out with the dog. He was just hanging out on our front door and was still there after our morning walk. Believe it or not, this has been our most exciting happening since being back in the Pittsburgh area. Perhaps a bit boring, but we are enjoying being back home.

Visiting Indiana Amish Country for RV Repairs

Visiting Indiana Amish Country for RV Repairs

We arrived in Shipshewana, IN on Tuesday afternoon. We planned to stop here for a week prior to taking our RV to Amish Family RV Service for repairs and maintenance work. I am on a Cedar Creek Facebook group and heard so many great things about Orvan and the work he and his team do. Many people buy brand new Cedar Creek Fifth Wheels and take them immediately to Orvan for service. He has developed “extra’s” that he does to improve and stabilize the slide outs and the suspension. Every comment and review I saw were extremely positive so we planned to come this way to get some of the work done.
